PRACTICALITIES

The First Appointment

The first appointment is important in existential work as both the therapist and client assess each other.  You as client will get to feel what it is like to talk  about your issues and to talk about them with me. I, as therapist, will be wondering how I am with the materiel you bring and what I will be able to offer you. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions about the therapeutic process and to talk about what you hope to get out of it and together we will agree a desirable outcome which would be both realistic and achievable.

Duration and frequency of sessions

Once weekly sessions are the norm, although there will be times when it may be therapeutically appropriate to have sessions more or less frequently. Sessions are 50 minutes. I would advise you commit to at least 6 preferable 10 to give the therapeutic relationship a time to establish itself. At this stage is will be possible to discuss the duration of the work which could then be for a fixed period e.g. a further 10 or 20 sessions or open ended. Of course this can be reviewed at any stage. Unlike medication it is not possible to prescribe the amount of therapy you will need. See FAQ for more about how may sessions you may need.

Cancellations and missed sessions

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy and I ask you to pay for missed sessions.

If you can't make a session, whenever possible, I will offer an alternative time later during the same week if the session would otherwise be missed.

Fees

My standard fees vary between £40 - £65 for individual therapy and £75 - £90 for couple therapy.

Locations

I practice in North London N19 most evenings and in W1 near Kingcross St Pancras during the day, subject to room availability.  I am available also via video call on Skype with clients who cannot travel to see me in London on a regular basis.
